BETWEEN THE PIPES
Regular season comes to a close on Friday
Posted on Feb 13, 2009
It is always good to end the regular season with a big game like the one on store for tonight.
This is the case for tonight (Friday) for the UW-River Falls men’s hockey team, who plays rival UW-Stout.
If UWRF wins tonight, it might play Stout in the first round of the NCHA Peter’s Cup. This would happen if the College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) defeats UW-Superior, who has locked in the top seed for the playoffs and will host Lake Forest College (Ill.) next week.
For Stout, it will play a rival team no matter what next week. UW-Eau Claire is right behind the Falcons in the standings and could pass UWRF with a win and a Falcon loss.
Derek Hansberry is still in the hunt to break the Falcon record for most collegiate goals. He has a guarenteed three games to score five goals, which would break the record of 78, set by Brian Wilson in the 1993-97 seasons.
Tyler Czuba might sit out again tonight to rest up for the playoffs.
More to come this weekend. A preview of the NCHA Peter’s Cup and a breakdown of UWRF’s series.
